AkzoNobel Expands Its North American Facilities in $60M Investment

Three facilities across N.A. are updating and expanding to support automotive, next-generation mobility and industrial customers.

AkzoNobel is continuing its $60 million manufacturing program to advance its production capabilities across North America.

Upgrades to expand capacity are underway at the company’s Powder Coatings facilities in Reading, Pennsylvania; Warsaw, Indiana; and the Monterrey, Mexico area.

These investments are modernizing operations and helping serve automotive and industrial customers.

In Reading, the facility produces approximately 45% of AkzoNobel’s North American powder coating batches. Work includes new production lines, bonding technology, automated process controls, and pilot manufacturing capabilities.

Together with the nearby Flying Hills R&D center, the new capabilities will help move next-generation powder coating formulations from development into commercial production faster.

In Warsaw, Indiana, an existing building has been transformed into a modern manufacturing space featuring state-of-the-art automation. The Monterrey, Mexico facility already has a new acrylics production building.

These projects are enhancing manufacturing flexibility, expanding regional capabilities and supporting customers across automotive, next-generation mobility, battery systems, energy storage, and other emerging applications.

AkzoNobel is also preparing its employees to operate new manufacturing technologies through technical training and upskilling. With modern manufacturing technologies, expanded capacity, and a highly skilled workforce, AkzoNobel is strengthening its North American Powder Coatings network to meet today’s customer needs while preparing for the next generation of mobility.

“Manufacturing continues to evolve rapidly, and our customers expect partners who are investing alongside them,” said Jeff Jirak, Managing Director of AkzoNobel’s Powder Coatings business and member of the company’s Executive Committee. “This investment strengthens our North American manufacturing network, expands our advanced production capabilities and reinforces our long-term commitment to helping customers innovate, improve supply chain resilience and bring high-performance products to market.”

“Our customers need more than additional capacity. They need reliable supply and the flexibility to launch new programs as technologies change,” said Baron Schreuder, North America Commercial Director, Powder Coatings at AkzoNobel. “With work underway at multiple sites, we are building the capabilities to respond faster, support complex applications and grow with our customers across the region.”
